Hello!
I would like to know is there any data of pitvipers ability to perceive different change of heat, in object.
And to my real question:
Can too hot, damage the snakes ability to recognize changing temperature. Boiling water, fire etc?

There is a ton of literature available on temperature perception in pitvipers. Because it is a sensory function that relies on specialized nerve endings, anything that would be hot enough to damage the receptors, would alter their ability to detect changes in their environment. I am not sure whether it would be permanent or not. The neurons involve in smell are able to regenerate themselves, but this is a rare phenomenon for nerve cells.
