Jason, you stated "The way the article reads makes it sound like it is a federal offense, not city or state, to ship non-indigenous animals across state lines."
A situation like this could involve both State and Federal Laws.
If the animals being kept illegal in your State, you are breaking a State Law. When you ship those illegal animals accross state lines, you then can be charged with a Federal Law, such as the Lacey Act.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ

Notwithstanding the idea of a classifieds disclaimer, I do like Joshua's idea of the site becoming a society with newsletters and meetings... perhaps a nominal membership fee. This would help to keep some of the unwanteds (especially the scammers) out.

Jason, from what gather about the article was that he was in trouble for obviously transport of them across the state lines, and Im assuming for posession of them as well, which would be why they had raided his house and confiscated his animals. A post like that on our classifieds, he could have simply claimed or added to his profile that he lived in another state.
Onto Zuzana's point about monitoring the posts, I do belive that emails should be verified and profiles should be completely filled out. To be honest there isnt much more than that we could do realistically without some obsurly major changes to both this site and the organization.
Stay safe, Eric
