IAM 26 YEARS OLD,AND IVE GROWN UP AROUND ALL TYPES OF REPTILES BOTH VENOMOUS AND NON-VENOMOUS!WHEN I WAS ALOT YOUNGER MY FATHER HAD ALL TYPES OF SNAKES,ALLIGATORS,CAIMAN,MONITORS,COBRAS,RETICS,ANACONDAS!WE HAD ALOT OF ANIMALS IN MY HOUSE WHEN I WAS GROWING UP! TO THIS DAY I STILL KEEP A LARGE NUMBER OF REPTILES,JUST NO VENOMOUS, BESIDES SOME TARANTULAS AND SCORPIONS. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW SOMEONE LIKE ME WOULD GET A JOB WORKING WITH THESE TYPES OF ANIMALS! I LIVE IN NEW YORK AND WAS REALLY THINKING ABOUT MOVING SOME WHERE DOWN SOUTH SO I COULD MAYBE FIND A JOB OF SOME SORT, BEING THAT THERES NOT MUCH HERE BESIDES WORKING IN A PET STORE! WHAT I REALLY WANT TO DO IS WORK WITH VENOMOUS SNAKES! ANY ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE ME WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL THANK YOU FOR YOURE TIME! MARK WEIR

Hey Mark, First, please turn off your "caps lock", then if you would fill out your profile so others have an idea who they're talking to might get you more responses. But I would suggest taking a few trips to the southeast and looking around first. Maybe some major metro areas of North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, etc. and see what area you like, pick up some newspapers to see what the job markets are like,(You probably won't find anything right off the bat working with reptiles so look for other jobs you can do to make ends meet until you find what you want.)what apartment/houseing prices are,(they most likely will vary greatly from New York)and check out the laws in the areas your thinking about for keeping the types of animals you want. Each state/county/city differs on rules and regs.I moved to the Atlanta, GA area in 1981 from Chicago and never looked back. Best move I ever made.Although the laws and regulations and permit system for keeping reptiles in GA suck really bad,if that is your main concern, I would suggest looking elsewhere.Good luck, MartyM

I started my own reptile facility/zoo 15 years ago and would be happy to give you some pointers how to make this a profession. It's hard and not easy but if you are determined, and, have some skills (not just skill in working with reptiles but people skills, communication skills, interpretive skills, etc.) you can make it. Feel free to email me directly but make sure you ask SPECIFIC questions not "how did you do it".
