Andrew, there are many, many good venomous snake books available from Amazon.
Two factors come into play.
Many of the books are specialized, and deal with snakes from a certain region. Others deal with a particular type of snake, like Rattlesnakes, or Agkistrodon, or Coral Snakes.
The other factor is Price. Some of the very best books have become very expensive. Sometimes they can be found used, and will cost less.
So, what you buy kind of depends on what you are most interested in, and how much money you have to spend.
If you like books about snake hunting adventures, then try to find a copy of "Snakes and Snake Hunting," by Karl Kauffield, or "Thrills of a Naturalist Quest" or "Forest of Adventure," by Raymond Ditmars.
Chris Mattison of your Country has written about 20 reptile books, all of which are excellent. Many of those should be available on Amazon for not much money.
There are some excellent books that you will someday want to own, such as "Venomous Reptiles of the Western Hemisphere," by Jonathan Campbell and William Lamar, however is is quite expensive, and might be best studied at your local library.
For now, I would suggest that you search Amazon, and look for deals on used books, (remember shipping cost also)and read on the types of snakes that you are most interested in. Also, do you have EBay in the UK ? They often have many snake books for sale, but shipping from the US would be costly.
Hope this helps. Best Regards JohnZ

There are lots of books listed in the reviews section on the navigation bar to your left.
You should be able to find something useful to you recommended in there.
