Okay folks here's another.
As before, please; it's not an open debate on salary ranges for zoo personnel or the evil dictatorship of AZA-dom. It's a job position working with a great collection of herps in one of the most wildlife-rich areas in the country. If the position is not for you, please, disregard gracefully. If it's something that you might be interested in on a serious level, feel free to contact Larry Lemon/Herpetology Supervisor at larry.lemon@abilenetx.com
Thank you.
DH

ZOOKEEPER I/II - REPTILES
The responsibilities of this position include providing for the safety and daily care of animals in the Reptile Area of the Zoo. This position includes work with venomous and non-venomous reptiles, amphibians, aquarium work and some small mammals. Applicants must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and must possess good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Manual work is involved. This is an excellent opportunity for a competent individual interested in working in a progressive environment that wishes to grow with the zoo. Zookeeper - II requires at least two years of paid experience equivalent to that of a Zookeeper - I in the City of Abilene. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record, as a driving record check will be required for this position. Pay scale for this overtime eligible position is $1,596.62 per month and $736.90 bi-weekly for Zoo Keeper - I, and $1,897.69 per month and $875.85 biweekly for a Zoo Keeper - II. This position closes end of business on March 28, 2008. Interested parties should respond to the city website abilenetx.com to the Job Opportunities link and/or email jobs@abilenetx.com

OK guys, here's your shot to maybe work here...
http://www.venomousreptiles.org/articles/351
If you have questions, give myself or Doug a shout.
This is a new, primo facility in a rapidly growing zoo in an area where you literally trip over diamondbacks 8 months out of the year.
Pay isn't incredible, but the cost of living in Abilene makes up for it.
If you're a dedicated and experienced hot herp person that doesn't mind working hard doing what you love, this is a golden opportunity.
You won't hate getting out of bed and heading to work every day.
We have a very progressive collection ranging from Moroccan Cobras to Bulgarian Vipers, Panamanian Golden Frogs to Alligator Snapping Turtles.
Basically this department covers everything that isn't warm blooded; herps, fish and invertebrates- all the fun stuff.
Gotta fill this position quick!
-Larry
