"Did yet another notorious freehandler get tagged?"
While I don't condone freehandling and feel it's just plain stupid, that wasn't the case. He was bitten by a nuisance alligator he was trying to trap, and more than likely, trying to relocate. An unfortunate part of the job when doing a good thing.

Gus OneBear lost his right thumb to a bite from a 7 foot nusiance alligator that he was removing from a roaway.
He picked up his thumb from the roadway, and drove himself over 40 miles to the nearest hospital. From there he was airlifted to a larger hospital where doctors attempted to re-attach his thumb, however, the operation was not successful, and the thumb was lost.
This was an unfortunate accident that can happen when people are working with wild animals. Gus is in good spirits and well, and considers this to be just one of the hazards of the trade.
Wishing Gus a speedy recovery.
Best Regards JohnZ

Then, by all means, best of luck with his recovery.
Sorry if I sounded insensitive. I simply feel that freehandling is not only dangerous, it's HORRIBLY irresponsible with regard to the REST of us who are working hard to PRESERVE our hobby, and our right to pursue it.

Best wishes to Mr. Onebear.
I don't buy the argument that anything he or Dr. Hunter (or Weathers, or anybody else in Florida for that matter) does hurts the hobby at all. Let's remain supportive.
