It does sound very much like an API move, especially concerning the upcoming shows.
One does have to ask though, where are the API folks getting pairs of Lion and Tiger Cubbs, and Alligators to release for their propaganda ?
Is there no record among Lion and Tiger breeders that could show where the cubs came from ? Perhaps we need a DNA database similar to the one being planned in NY State for Timber Rattlesnakes, that would document just where the free roaming little big cats came from ?

Often some sanctuaries or zoos that are exempt from these bans 'provide' the exotic animals to be dumped and then these very sanctuaries ‘adopt' them.
I wrote this a while ago and keep revising it :

SNIP
And in December 1999 in Michigan, a 10 week old lion cub miraculously appeared on the grounds of the Belle Isle Zoo in Detroit, whose director is Ron Kagan (Kagan's animal rights leanings are so strong that he won "2004 PETA progress Award" for supposedly making the Detroit Zoo the first zoo to voluntarily close its elephant exhibit for ethical reasons). This happened a few weeks before the House Committee was scheduled to discuss and just few days after the Senate passed the "Large carnivore act". The act not surprisingly became a law later in 2000.
The lion cub was adopted by the Michigan Humane Society who helped introduce this legislation. The incident was as usual blamed on private pet owners, but seems to be conspicuously missing from all AR websites reports on feline related incidents, many going back to 1990 (reporting false sightings with no cat or even print being found), yet this one is omitted. One can only wonder why.

If this is truely happening, then it sounds like the private owners need to band together and create the DNA database of registered members of the big cat breeders society or something. That way they would have evidence that "excaped" cats did not come from their breeding facilities, and prove that the cats came from crooked sancuaries with API ties. Don't the zoos allready have some kind of DNA thing going on tigers, to help prevent inbreeding of tigers and such?
Seems I remember something like that in the past. Or, perhaps it was for Cheetas ?

last year big snakes and crocodile/alligator dumpings were more popular to dump to influence bans, how much work would it be to DNA all of them???
I assume it woud be insane

Actually, collecting a DNA sample might be easily accomplished if the Vets who do routine vaccinations on these animals became involved. Set up a Nationwide lab / database, and then have owners / vets send in samples to that lab to be cataloged. They probably could work with hair samples or blood samples. You would have to set up a lab, and hire a couple of folks to run it and someone to enter data, not that big of a thing perhaps.
The AKC has a vast database of registered dogs. Something similar to that, but with the addition of DNA sample collection should not be all that difficult.
Just a thought.

Vinnie mentioned the cameras in the parking lot. I have a friend who had his truck stolen from a new Super Walmart parking lot a couple of weeks ago. The video was so poor that you couldn't even tell if the person was white or black. And this was in the middle of the day. Those cameras suck. They did find his truck though. Marty

The AR folks would have done better if they called from a different county than Gloucester. Gloucester has very draconian exotic laws (cant have nutin' basically).
Sec 3-5. Prohibition of keeping or exhibiting of wild, exotic, venomous or poisonous animals within the County of Gloucester.
For the purpose of this article the definition of an exotic animal shall mean any live monkey (non-human primate), raccoon, skunk, wolf, wolf-canine hybrid, squirrel, fox, pot belly pigs and other non-domesticated porcine, leopard, tiger, lion, panther, or any other warm blooded animal, venomous reptile, to include, but not limited to coral snakes, rattle snakes, cottonmouth snakes, vipers and cobras, sea snakes, gila monsters, Mexican beaded lizards, or non-venomous reptiles six (6) feet or longer in length which can normally be found in the wild, all constrictor type snakes, poisonous arachnids to include, but not limited to: Black Widow spiders, Brown Recluse spiders, scorpions, poisonous amphibians to include but not limited to poison arrow frogs, or any member of the crocodilian family, including, but not limited to alligators, crocodiles, caimans, and gavials, or any other animal that would require a standard of care and control greater than that required for customary household pets sold by commercial pet shops, or domestic farm animals. Ferrets and birds which are normally purchased through pet stores, non-poisonous reptiles less than six (6) feet in length, domestic rabbits, domestic rodents and which have been bred in captivity and which never have known the wild shall be excluded from the definitions of wild and exotic animals.

There is a PETA headquarters (the PETA headquarters?) in Norfolk, Virginia. That's about 50 miles from Gloucester. A coincidence? Could be, but sounds a little suspect to me!

I have a male Bothrops asper that was given to me by a young Marine friend on his way to Iraq. Someone else had given it to him, and so he just threw it in with some other snakes I was purchasing, and at the time I wasn't all that interested in it, but figured, what the heck, any snake can teach you something new. That was over a year ago and it is now one of the most treasured specimens in my collection, and has sparked a new and profound interest in lanceheads. He was skinny and suffering from disecdysis when I first took him on, but has filled out beautifully, and looks stunning after every shed. He took a little getting used to-- like most vipers he rests all day in a quiet coil and seems as laid back as any copperhead -- until you need to move him, whereupon he can show all the energy and agility of a black racer. These guys WILL NOT ride a hook for more than a minute or so, and once they get going, it's like trying to hook a stream of water. However, in my experience, this snake has always moved vigorously in the opposite direction - away from me, and never once has he taken a swipe at me. I cannot say this one is an aggressive snake, though personalities may vary wildly within a species. Of course, night-time is a different story, and I leave this guy distinctly alone after dark. Like many other vipers he becomes much more alert and defensive then.
Anyway, even though I paid nothing for this snake, I wouldn't dare give him up to VDGIF for any amount of money. "I'll give up my Terciopelo when they pry it from my cold, dead.... tongs! " On the other hand, I'd never take him to Wal-Mart either....
