Hello everyone, I have been considering purchasing a Hydrodynastes gigas sometime in the spring of '09 as my first venomous snake. I have been trying for the past month to contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to discover whether there are any regulations or required permits, and they will not return my calls or emails. Are there any venomous keepers in Texas who can answer these questions for me? I really appreciate any help or advice you can give.
A note on my experience, I began keeping snakes after a trip to Zimbabwe, Africa where I was allowed to interact with several species of pythons and a venomoid (yes I know that's a sore subject, but let's not get into a debate about that here) Ophiophagus hannah. I have been keeping everything from Python regius to Elaphe obsoleta since then. I don't currently own any snakes as I was forced to sell them about a year ago due to financial obligations. My situation has since improved and is quite stable now, so I've decided that it's time to begin working with my precious snakes again.
If it is legal to keep venomous snakes in Texas, I would welcome the guidance of any experienced keepers in the DFW area-as well as the advice of anyone outside of the area who is willing to post it here or email me. Thank you all for your time and help! This website has been a tremendous source of information already!

Ah, thank you very much! I can't believe how many times I must have looked right past that. Makes me feel pretty stupid.
If there's anyone interested in working with me before I purchase the snake next year, I would appreciate it. Thanks again!
