Sorry everybody, but I just had to tell the story I heard today. You know anymore, I just tend to agree, because it's almost not worth it. Had a country guy tell me today, in all seriousness, that he has snakes all over his area that when you hit, they break up into little pieces, and rejoin together again(tail following head). Oh yeh, he also has seen snakes that will roll up into a ball and CHARGE!!! I told him he needs to report these new species immidiately! Isn't it funny, some of the myths about snakes that people believe. It doesn't matter how long you have studied these creatures, they know what they saw. Anymore, I just have to laugh. By the way, if any of you happen to encounter a charge from a rolling snake, just clapp your hands 3 times, and it will roll away!

Yep, the ole hoop rolling snake that graps its tail in its mouth and chases you, LOL this has occurred in my area as well, and propigated by older members of my family. Also the "blacksnakes" that milk the cows in the barn. My neighbor last summer told me that a copperhead gave him a flat tire on his tractor when it struck it and left two big nail sized holes in the side of the tire....they are amusing

Don't forget the "Pilot Rattlesnake", "Pilot Black Snake" or just "Pilot Snake". I've heard it called all of these. It is solid black, has no rattle but is just as deadly as a rattlesnake and is very common in the southeast.....

That would be the black rat snake. Called the pilot rattlesnake because it is said to "lead rattlesnakes to their dens". Ridiculous what people will believe.

yea, yea, I've the snake experts in town tell me of the cross breeding between rattlesnakes and "black snakes" because of the faint diamond pattern sometimes visible...lol...( actually they are confusing the black rat with the black racer, which has no pattern)and the amazing part is they are all over 9' long. Gotta love folk lore...

Don't forget the whip snake that chases you out of his area and whips you with his tail. That one is deserving of all respect. Here in Brunswick, Ga, we also have copperhead rattlers, too. Funny how folks think, huh?

Here in Peru people believe that the tree vipers and Corallus species feed on pinapples (they say that if they didn't feed on them they woldn't be found on those plants so they SURELY feed on pinapples) and they also believe that eating or using the gall bladder of a snake that bit the person can be useful against a bite. There are lots of these things everywhere and in every country.
