As some of you may already know due to the previous topic of feedingissues I posted, my red diamondback is not accepting dead prey. So anyways, after he was done biting the large rat I feed him every week, the rat began dieng. However before he could die, he took a last bite at the snake taking half of his rattles clean off, he had 8 and now he has about 3 or 4. This ticked me off so much because the red diamondback, with the exception of 1 of my southern pacifics, was the only rattlesnake I had with a perfect string of rattles. Problem is it is not excepting dead rats. I'm thinking of maybe taping the rat's mouth shut next time to prevent a bite, sounds a little cruel but I can't find an alternative. Any suggestions?

Tape is not good for reptiles. Thump the rat on the head, or hit it on the head with somthing like the handle end of a screw driver, then present the food item to the snake while it is stund. Tape is not a good idea.

I have a snake that won't take F/T rodents, but if I kill the rat/mouse and immediately dangle it in front of it with LONG hemostats, it'll hit it and eat it just like it was alive. Also, it will take F/T chicks. You might want to try that. But tape wouldn't be good. Marty
