If this is true, why do over 500 people die a year from scorpions(at least that's what I've heard)? I wonder just how much probing triggers the leathal stuff and if that matter with deadlier species like the death stalker? I know this may not be everyones field of expertise, but may someone has an opinion.

that article is really interesting!!! the areas where people die from scorpion stings are mostly the areas where the people can not get proper medical attention. latin america is a big one. this article more applies to the more toxic species of scorpions. the compisition of their venom is a little more complex.
Also, when a scorp stings a person it is probaly assuming that the person will hurt them. therefore injecting a large quanity of venom. i have several species of "fat tail" scorpions and i notice that the qunaity of venom injected greatly increases with prey item size. some of the scorpions in the genus Androctonus seem to have venom that works well on mammals. the venom takes a long time to kill a cockrocah , but a mouse of the smae time it takes a rather short time. thanks for posting that interesting article. i hope i helped a little. :)

This article implies that most casualities are elders and children. I still would like to know just how the different venom injections as referred to in the first article correlates to the number of actual casualties.
