Well, I will TRY to keep this brief.
I have "let this topic go" because I feel like we repeat ourselves daily (Fred, John, etc..).
Here are the points I will touch on.
First, you ARE FEEDING WAY TO MUCH. Too little is almost ALWAYS better than too much with snakes.
John's post was great brief explanation of why.
Not only does it shorten the lifespan of your animals, it also will stress them out to be "fed" or even teased with prey that often. This is where MANY of the behavioral problems come from....stress. Remember, snakes do not have the metabolism we have.
(Except maybe Fred’s LOL).
Second, I keep almost all of my snakes, regardless of species, in their own enclosures. Especially neonates, I mean how hard can it be to find a suitable enclosure. I notice especially with many Crotalus, the stress of the other tank-mates will throw them off feed, and just make them more stressed in general.
Third, the statement
"He he I stuff my snakes like crazy. I am in fact trying to get them to a large size, I like larger snakes. I feed my rattlers the max they can eat every week. They are not obese, but I do tend to stuff them."
Makes me think about someone who SHOULD not be keeping snakes. We all, even the experts need advice from time to time, but all of the points brought up in this thread a fairly serious issues.
Cut back on the feeding BIG TIME, give this snake its own enclosure, and maybe message back in a week. Leave the snake alone for that time. Do not try to offer it ANY food. Go from there once it has its own space and is left alone for a week. (By the way, the plastic Rubbermaid or Sterilite tubs at WalMart, Target, Big-Lots, etc.. make very good temporary enclosures. IF kept in an area where the temperature will be appropriate, and air holes are made.)
Hope you can resolve your problem.
Take Care.
~John.
