I don't often say mucyh in the threads, but I thought I would ask a question here...
Have any of the experienced folks here considered calling the local authorities regarding this guy's treatment of the animals? I've seen enough posts over the months that would indicate that his "techniques" amount to abuse; you folks would know better than I (I have never kept anything but dogs, cats and goldfish) if that is true. I also suspect that more than a few of you would have access to those officials with the authority to remove the animals from his care (given sufficient evidence).
While I realize that many here are fiercely opposed to any governmental role in keeping animals, wouldn't reporting it seem prudent for the benefitof the snakes, the hobby and even Mufffdaddy himself?
It seems to me that expressing outrage and/or disgust is pretty much pointless unless you're willing to do something to remove the source of that outrage.
Just my .02...

Charlie, you stated:
"It seems to me that expressing outrage and/or disgust is pretty much pointless unless you're willing to do something to remove the source of that outrage."
I disagree a bit with that, because many of the young folks who watch the Muffy videos also read posts on this site. When they see our posts about how his actions are dangerous for himself, and for the snakes involved, some of them just might listen to us. A lot of the young keepers are way smarter than Muffy, and are smart enough to know that he is making mistakes, even if they find his videos entertaining.
As far as what can be done, well, Muffy has allready had to stop keeping venomous snakes at home in his apartment due to neighbors finding out about his videos.
I am not sure if there are animal wellfare or game and fish laws in his state that could be used concerning how he, and his clone, handle snakes. They would almost have to be laws against stupidity. Perhaps folks who live up there, and know the local laws, might take an interest.
The best thing that could happen would be for reptile dealers at Hamburg to refuse to sell venomous snakes to the blob brothers. They sure do not need to get their hands on snakes more venomous than copperheads.
Best Regards John Z

I just can not for the life of me understand Howcome there are so many people who think these idiots are awesome. After watching the video, I was scrolling down and reading some of the replies to the videos and I was just in shock at how everybody was saying things like " you guys rock!" or "keep up the great work guys". I so wanted to post a very hateful reply to the video, but I got to thinking ya know what? It wouldn't do a bit of good. I in return would get so many hateful replies back telling me how dumb and inexperienced I was and that these guys are so wonderful so I didn't even bother. I think muffdaddy and his fat clone are poster children for abortion.

I just hope in their attempts at a Darwin Award, no one else watches and is intrigued by the ignorance and gets hurt themselves.

Apparently the video in question was "removed by the user". Perhaps some of our less than encouraging and insensitive comments were to blame. Ya think perhaps muffy needs a hug?

Cro,
I understand your point and it is well taken with respect to those who visit this site. Unfortunately, I would think that (in most cases)), the members here tend to be more cautious and responsible to begin with. I can only think of a couple of members (Former?) who would come close to considering the kind of behavior exhibited by MuffDaddy as reasonable. I would be much more concerned about those who don't know wbout this site and the potential affect on them.
I've seen plenty of action (letters, emails, phone calls) taken by members here when something negative is written in a mass publication or when unfavorable legislation is proposed. It just seems to me that the same passion and sense of responsibility should be de riguer when a rogue (for lack of a better word) keeper is potentially endangering the hobby and other people.
Admittedly, I don't know what actions could be taken (I do recall the apartment complex incident, ironically, I defended his rights in that case as it appeared the complex breached its contract with him), but it seems that someone with the ability to articulate the problems with this individual might be able to have an effect.
I would certainly think that, at a minimum, one or more of the senior members here (I will cite as an example, Mr Carmichael due to his credentials, Mr. C., please indulge me here for purposes of example only) would have the ability to present evidence of animal cruelty sufficiently credible for authorities to begin an investigation and remove the animals from his care (hopefully to a zoo or other responsible home).
I will offer to assist if someone with the knowledge and background to make a credible case is willing to try. I have no credentials; myu knowledge of husbandry is limited to what I've read here, so I won't be a credible source, but will be glad to assist in any manner I can.

Sorry, but Mike is not a 'good guy.' He's a liar and is still attempting to scam free herps every single day. Despite all the info that has come to light on this site and the BOI, their website is still alive and well:
http://www.joannsreptilerescue.org/about_us.html
They were actively trying to get free herps on craigslist here in Virginia while actively denying it on other boards to other hobbyists.
...and to the person who mentioned reporting this to the local authorities, I have already done so multiple times, and nothing, absolutely nothing has been done. I have sat here in my office and talk with Virginia DGIF and the head of Alexandria Animal Control about this, and nothing has happened except that Muffy made a parody video of me for trying to get these guys shut down.

weither any of it is true or not, i do know is my own conversatiosn with mike about things. other then seeing a group of suposedly mature individuals attacking someone I have personaly found nothing wrong with mike, other then he made a few bad decisons.
But frankly bashing someone is pointless an retarded.
It's childish an THAT is the point.
As for criags list, pfffffft i got riped off so many times on there its not even funny so don't even get me started with that.
I personaly see nothing wrong with someone posting that they will take free herps. It's beter then them ending up released into the wild etc.
Hell even I have posted on Craigslist an freecycle etc. For anyone who has any unwanted snakes etc that they just want to give away to contact me.
By right you have freedom of speach, its greta you choose to use it an express your opions. thats your constituional right.
However when you claim you hate someone so much WHY do you give them more popularity by showin them off? you may appeal to some, but others may find somethin they like about them and side with them. All you do is boost the views on their website, their videos etc.
Stop the he said she said bullshit, stop the bashing all your doing is promoting someone or something you claim to dislike/hate etc.

I'm not going to turn this thread into an argument over Mike's motives for his videos or 'rescue' operations.
If you are going to address me, Celeste, you should probably type your response more coherently. I am in Virginia, and you are not. Mike and Nick's actions directly affect me more than you. A legislative action that might occur as a result of one of their mistakes is going to threaten my rights to keep herps before it threatens yours, so you better believe that I am going to do all I can to put an end to it and make sure that the people who enjoy this hobby responsibly don't pay the price.
For the record, I was not 'bashing.' I was reporting fact. Mike's website is still up, and so is his video on YouTube where he EXPLICITLY says that he will sell offspring from an abused female Boa he took in as a rescue.
Against the law? no, but ethically very shady...
