You have to destroy an animal due to an unfortunate situation that got out of hand. Yet, you see fit to make a trophy out of said animals head and skin. I'm guessing your "deerly departed pet" didn't rank too high in the family love hierarchy. Not to worry though, living in Vegas you can always apply for one of them white tiger permits.

Z, Todd was talking about the video link I posted a couple of posts back.
The folks skinned the "pet" Burmese python, and kept the skin and head as a trophy.

to me killing the snake was realy unnessiary IF they had taken the proper precuations incase of a bite. I hate to read about stuff like this that could have easily been prevented.
40lbs for a 15 foot burm... something is verry wrong with that estimate for my taste...
I feel sorry for the snake, at that size he shoulda been pounding rabbits, fowl... I bet they were givin him large rats an not enough of them at that an thinking oh well he ate hes fine. So its no wonder the snake escaped an decided she looked like dinner.
Killing the snake should have been an all out last resort. Owning an animal like that is alota responcibility, thus they should have had the common sence to do alil research. Such as oh say using rubbing alchol will cause a snake to release it bite, as teh alchol irritates the nose an eyes, sometime spourings ome on a cloth an gettin it near the snakes nose will encourage them to release. or if thats not avaible an your in a bad neough situation pouring it on the snakes head. Thus why alot of bigs nake keepers keep a bottle of rubing alchol or even abottle of whiskey etc. close at hand where theykeep the snakes. If they had known this then someone could have obtained a bottle an got the snake to release.
Obviously or well least in my own assumption the father was doinw hat he felt he needed to save his daughter. But still alil knowledge would have went along way.
as for the zoo killing - that guy i'm sorry folks but was an idiot. He blatently broke zoo protocols as it was stated in all the atricles i've read on it. He not only went to get the snake out eairly, but alone. a big rule with big snakes is that you do not handel them alone!!!!!
Anyway thats my two cents ;) sorry for my crappy spellin guys but ya know ya love me anyway :P - btw its ano go on feeding the coppers tofu XD lol.

Human safety always comes first and foremost...period. Whether someone was acting in a careless manner or not, no one deserves to die. It was sad seeing the snake being put to death by his own owners but under the circumstance, I think any father, in that situation, may have done the same (I have two girls and sorry folks, they mean a lot more than all of the herps in the world).
The zookeeper in Venezuela was not an idiot - if that's the case, we're all idiots. We've all done stupid things and hopefully, we learn from them (plus, I don't think we have gotten all of the facts from this case). What stands out is that we need to better educate new owners when it comes to the absolutes of keeping giant constrictors.

My post was not meant to be a slight against Las Vegas. It was intended as pointed sarcasm aimed at a man who had no business improperly keeping a potentially dangerous animal in an inadequate enclosure.
The white tiger reference was twofold: 1; Being an entertainment mecca, Las Vegas is known two have one or two white tigers, and 2; If a fellow is going to be so uh….. thoughtless as to keep potentially dangerous animals in the same abode as his family, have a unfortunate mishap with the animal, then subsequently show so little regard for the animal that he beheads then later skins, then perhaps his next “pet” should be a tigre-de-blanco so that during his next little “accident” perhaps “fluffy” will have a little more success in removing him from the gene pool.
Again, sorry for the confusion.

In Clark county (where Vegas is) many exotic animals (big cats like tigers, elephants, etc...) are already regulated thru zoning land use permits where you have to do thru hearings, neighbors can oppose and your caging design has to be approved.
Some cities in Clark county simply ban most exotics (Henderson, Norh Las Vegas for example)(not sure if thecities' defintion of exotics includes pythons)

PS: It was unfortunate the pet had to be killed, but personally I have no issues with people keeping the skin or shells of their deceased animals.

"Yeah, I think we can say with pretty good certainty that the AR lobby is making sure that EVERY serious python attack in the country if not the world makes it on the news these days."
With all of the recent "attacks" and the BS you see on TV, it's really making it easy for the AR lobby and any other group. I watched a monsterquest show the other night about giant snakes. Half of the show was devoted to the "deadly" pythons in South Florida and featured some great acting by some notables.
Not only are people contributing to it in the news, but also in TV shows. It's only a matter of time until reptiles are gone and piebald, leucistic, het for stripe and albino, melanistic guppies are the only thing you find in classified's. It's getting ridiculous. We're giving the lobbyists ammo on every level. We need more shows on snake bites and dangerous, deadly pythons. That'll help.
