I find them very fascinating, especially rattlesnakes and elapids. My favorite 'rattlers' are the Eastern Diamondback and Timber Rattler, and as far as elapids go, the King Cobra(ophigiophagus hannah..spelling?)and the Australians: the Death Adder, Tiger Snake, and the two species of Taipans(Inland and Coastal). How can I learn more about these snakes? All I can find in my small local library are the T.F.H. published books that only cover certain species. I also believe those that responsibly keep venomous snakes are in some way ensuring their survival(thank you!) Most people I know hate snakes, especially venomous ones. They don't understand the role snakes play on our planet, and how beautiful and graceful they are. How can I help educate people that snakes play a vital role in our ecosystem?
And am I the only woman that could be considered a 'crazy snake lady'?

Kim,
Welcome! I think that you will find many ladies on this site who are interested in (and some VERY experienced with) venomous reptiles. I have my own ides as to whom should wear the title 'crazy snake lady', but I'm afraid to speak out for fear she will cause me bodily harm ;)
I would also suggest that you fill out your profile a litle more so that we can all get to know you a little better. Answers to your questions are likely to be better (more aimed at your situation) if we know to whom we are answering.

Kim, thanks for your kind inquiry and supportive atttitude towards responsible venomous keeping, an undertaking that is often rudely bashed by the ignorant. Books abound (I'm sitting here in the Amherst County public library with a copy of Manny Rubio's "Rattlesnake, Portrait of a Predator," a very beautiful book with lots of great photos), and if you ever get a chance to attend a reptile show or expo, that's a great place to look for books. I would also recommend that you finish filling out your profile and keep hanging out at this site... it's home-base for many of the country's most knowledgeable and experienced venomous keepers, but they're liable to get into lengthy discussions about just about anything, so be forewarned! Check the photo galleries here and the classifieds too... you often see some great photos of rare and unusual snakes that are not common in collections or books.
