That was extremely irresponsible! Catching your loose eyelashes should be of the utmost importance! Rip apart your whole house in order to find them. Leave NOTHING to chance! If not for the safety of yourself, certainly for the safety of others! I certainly do hope you locate those critters, as us "hotkeepers" certainly don't want bad press from irresponsible "hotkeepers". The media would have a field day with you if they got wind of such a story! I suggest you either get rid of these snakes or learn from your lesson and isolate these critters from any future misshaps! I don't want to "rag" on you, But JEEZ, how could you let such an event occur? Best luck and wishes to you in locating your eyelashes, and be CAREFUL!

These are the kind of people that give responsible herpers a bad name. For all of you responsible and mature venomous keepers out there who can't stand many of the different laws that our states have about how many venomous snakes you can own or which ones you can have, this is why. The idiots ruin it for the rest of you. This is why so many of us disagree with non-professionals keeping venomous snakes because there are too many nit-wits out there doing crap like this. There are way too many people out there who think that it is their God-given right to own and torture any animal they see just because they can. They don't jack about the animals they keep except that they are venomous and "so cool" and they have them locked up in little cages away from their natural habitat and a real existance. These uneducated enthusiast weirdos shouldn't own hamsters let alone reptiles and amphibians, who are so easily sicked and diseased by poor care. If the only reason you own venomous snakes is to brag to your friends, maybe you should rethink your priorities in life. Ask your self if your obsession benefits the animals you love or hurts them?

Actually Robert, I disagree with you on a couple of points.
I considered deleting this post when it first appeared because of its irresponsible nature. But the way that responsible keepers respond to it says as much about our community as the original post does.
If you click on the original posters name, you will see that his bio says he is from California where it is already illegal to keep Eyelash Vipers. Making new or more stringent laws won't make a single bit of difference. This guy is already breaking the law! Enforcing the the laws that already exist and passing laws that can be enforced are key.
I agree with what you say about only owning reptiles to brag but I don't agree with you about your comments on education. There are a great many keepers with no more than a high school education who provide valuable information to the community as a whole. Bill Haast is one of the first names that comes to mind.
Either way, we both agree that this individual should not have snakes. This post is either a joke or an individual that I hope F & G catches up with.

This took my breath away. I for one would not like to stay in that house. And I think If he were to get tagged by one of the vipers, Like his poor dog did, He would think twice the next time he bought hots. My big thing with this story is, The loving dog had to pay for his mistakes, And that is ( BULL-SHIT ) I think he should get out of the hot biss. ASAP
I for one am dam mad. GOD BLESS THE DOG.

I didn't mean "uneducated" to represent classroom schooling. Educational schooling means little when it comes to being good herpetologist. I meant uneducated about snakes and other reptiles and amphibians. People who don't take the time to learn about them and just go about this lifestyle on a whim with no real experience or knowledge for the animal's welfare and safety. That is what I meant and I am sorry for the miscommunication. I certainly have a lot of respect for Bill Haust and many other herpetologist who have not received a formal education but are masters at what they do for herpetology. I have Bill Haust's book "Cobra's in his garden" and have always found him incredible.
I didn't know about the laws in California, nor do I know much about them in any state because it doesn't affect me much. I was just using that as an example because so many of the people here complain about the laws and regulations. I was pointing out that if there weren't people like this guy out there, we wouldn't need laws and responsible venomous snake keepers wouldn't get hassled about what they keep and how they keep them.

I can agree with all of that. We are all representatives of this community and our actions and behavior has repercussions far beyond our individual neighborhoods.
I, too, am often amazed that some folks are allowed to walk around without some sort of keeper to make sure they don't hurt themsleves or someone else, let alone buy and keep venomous snakes.

Terrible story ... terrible writer. Try it again when you don't have as much to drink. I know you can do better if you try harder when your sober.
The real scarey thing is some here bought it. How about that for poor judgement ? Same reason so many bad movies do well I guess.
