Very good comments, and very true. Gaboons (and rhinos) do not like to be put into a soaking container and will thrash about wildly. Anytime you try to move one of these snakes it is a very stressful experience for them, and it should be avoided except when absolutely necessary. I think this notion of weekly soaking may have started with an article that appeared in Reptiles magazine a couple of years ago. Mine drink very well from a spray-bottle, and are always provided with a dish of water, which helps keeps the cage humidity up, though I have yet to see any of them actually drink out of it. They also seem happier at a lower temperature than most tropical snakes.
