I am considering buying a pair of
Fea's vipers (Azmiops feai) for
possible breeding experiments.
But as a reponsible adult, I'd like
to know which, if any, of the
commercial anti-venins available
would be the proper one in the
event of a mishap? As this is an
uncommon animal, I feel I need
more info of this type before
continuing. Thank you.

I have consulted both the list that we published in Toxicon and one of the co-authors, R.D.G.Theakson (who is head of our Unit) this morning. Apperntly there is no specific antivenom available for Azmiops feai.
Refferance:
ANTIVENOMS: A LIST OF HYPERIMMUNE SERA CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR THE TREATMENT OF ENVENOMING BY BITES AND STINGS. R.D.G.THEAKSTON and D.A.WARRELL
Toxicon Vol 29, No.12, pp1419-1470, 1991

As Mr Rowley states, no antivenom exists for this snake. From what I understand, there have beena handful of bites in the past which were very mild typical symptoms as would be expected by a viper bite. (But I was told this a couple of years ago and cannot remember by whom.) I know that BGF has done some work with them within the last year or so. I recomend going to his website (venomdoc.com) and asking him. If nothing else, he might be able to get you in touch withthe Russian herptologist who has had the most success with these snakes.
Cheers
Roger
