Anyone on this site know a really good area in South TX for herping?..My long lost herping buddy , (having just re-connected after 30 years).. we are looking to take a long weekend and do some herping in early April..We both are Rattler fanatics..but these days just cath for photos and release..and fun!..Looking for suggestions from Any South TX snake guys..I was in La Salle county last April and saw lots of Westernd DBs ..but with so much private ranch land ..dont really have a starting point..any suggestions!??.Thanks for any help..Ps would also be open to trading any land access opportunities for the same here in California..Great Pacific rattler, kingsnake, gopher etc, area..

You are correct in saying that most of the land being private ranches. Depending on what you are looking for, you can find most what there is to find road cruising the many highways and farm roads down there. Unless you have access to the ranches, the majority of your animals will be seen road cruising which can be good to excellent depending on the conditions at the time you are there. The highways down there are great with many of them having wide shoulders with little traffic to allow for undisturbed photo opportunities.

Define south Texas? There are a variety of rattlesnake species here in TX. Where to find them is equally as varied.
