I was curious if Mississippi had laws against keeping hots, and if it does where can I get a permit. Also if anyone would know where to get a permit to keep alligators. Im wanting to start a zoo in my area to try and educate people about reptiles and I want to do it legally. Thanks Alot.

You do not need any permits for hot's in Ms. you can keep up to 4 of each species, or up to 20 venomous specimens with out anything but a valid hunting license.if you want to keep more than that you will need a propogation permit. go to Coastal reptiles website, and click on venomous laws. I don't think you need anything for the gators. Were do you live in Mississippi.? I run Mississippi herpetology society, and Mississippi reptile rescue and removal service. And live in Booneville. Good luck. Spanky

I live in Itta Bena, MS and was wondering what I would need to do to get a Hot Permit. I do not particularly plan on keeping venomous snakes but I do take in rescues (mostly constrictors) and every once in a while one will be venomous. I usually try to find a keeper or zoo to take them but her lately it has been harder to do and I want a permit just incase no one wants to keep them.

Venomous laws by state. I have no idea how accurate or up to date this list is, but if nothing else, the contact info might help you out. http://www.cobraman.net/27576.html

All that is required in Mississippi is a valid small game hunting license. For native snakes 4 of each spieces not to exced 20 total native snakes. As for exotices there are no current laws or restrictions, yet.
