I have a 2005 Ford Expedition that has gotten me all over the U.S. and even into Mexico...saved my life crossing a portion of the Rio Grande River that had a sudden flash flood and hasn't failed me yet. I'm sure there are many better choices but this one works for me.

Taylor,I beleive the safari vehicle your talking about is a Jeep Wrangler? I just went to carmax.com and did a search and came up with over 200 of them for sale.If they don't have carmax's in Utah, try your local newspaper clasifieds or a Jeep dealer.Hope this helps, Marty
I just did a store locator search and it came up with a carmax in Salt Lake City.

In the past, Chris posted that he would like to own a "Jeep Rescue," which was a "Concept" vehicle. I think a few prototypes might have been built, but I do not think that Chris owns one.
It is not likely you find a off the lot vehicle of any sort that will suit. The best thing is to buy a vehicle, and then add to it the things that are needed.
Stuff like extra lights, winch, rescue gear, storate, larger gas tanks, water cans, etc. come to mind.
Just wait till I finish restoring my 1972 Chevrolet / GMC Blazer / Jimmy. It is going to have a big block 427, 5 inches of lift, and 36 inch Goodrich All Terrain Tires, along with many other goodies, including 12,000 LB winch, and tons of lighting, roll cage, etc. It might not be a safiri vehicle, but it will be one heck of a herping vehicle, LOL !
Right now it is a buyers market. One of the best times in history to purchase a vehicle as a great price, IF you have cash money and know how to bargain with all of the starving car dealers out there, LOL.
Best Regards

I keep looking for a classic Bronco ('66-'77) to fix up into the ultimate herp vehicle, but I never have the money when I find the vehicle. I guess that's life. I have also looked at the old IH scouts as pretty awesome vehicles. If I get either one I'm going to start with the straight six (if it's a Bronco) because they're pretty much indistuctable, and they put out good torque numbers. If I go with the Scout I think I'll go with the four banger diesel (for the same reasons, plus I make biodiesel). For the time being, though, I'll have to go with my little Ford Escape. It's not big and Macho, but it has never failed to get me where I need to go, and I can get a lot more herping done at near thirty miles to the gallon than I could ever get at 10-15 mpg.
In the end your feet are the best herping vehicle that you could possibly get.
