Is Boiga dendrophilia a venomous snake? I know they have mild venom and a means of venom delivery, but does it count as a venomous snake?
I got my first Boiga dendrophilia last night. It's only the second rear-fanged venomous I've owned, but the other was a Heterodon platyrhinos. I don't really see Heterodon as a venomous snake, and I'm not sure about Boiga.
Thanks in advance,
Jon Short

I still treat them as a hot snake from my adult breeders to my hatchlings. Are they going to drop you? Probably not, but a well-placed bite will ruin your day.
(Incindentally, I work all venomous snakes with equal respect, from copperheads to taipans)

Doug is right on. Although not considered by many to be a snake of concern, it's still venomous and as such, should be treated with great respect. I have spoken to several keepers of Boiga who experienced some pretty nasty bites from these snakes - one was bed ridden for a few days due to a severe reaction to the venom.

I am treating it as a venomous snake. I try to never get within strike range and I don't free-handle him.

Many years ago, when these were considered to be "harmless" snakes, an acquaintance of mine had a very bad few days after getting careless with one. Colubrid venoms are still poorly understood, and apparently have different reactions with different people so again, err on the side of caution.

I know it is not the case here but remember Typus at one point were thought to be harmless. It is a different story now.
mangs do have very nasty venom. They just can not deliver it such as a boomer. The strike range on an adult Mang is unreal.
