Do any of you guys out there think that snakes ever actually "tame" down and learn to reconize the keeper? Or do you think give them a chance and your going to get wacked? Do they have much of a personallity or are they creatures of habit? Just one to think about.
Thanks Ray

I know what the experts beleive about this and I know what the truth is. Some will reconize caregivers.
I've two. The first being a retic I raised from hatching. At six years old and 22.5 feet, she became very sick. A month at the local hospital done no good so she went to Dr. Rossi in Jacksonville. They could not get her to even drink. I went down for a visit and she drank my soda pop out of my cup. When we left, she refused to drink again until I picked her up. I have videotape of her following me across the yard and back.
The second was a cottonmouth. I got it injured and doctored it and had alot of time with it. That was three years ago. I still have it and not once has it "displayed" or struck.
Understand, All animals can and will bite. Respect earns respect. Not all animals will give respect, either

They can recongnize their owners, my Constrictors, Eunectes and Epicrates will bite anybody trying to touch them but me, and my Bothrops roedingeri won't eat if someone is looking at him unless that person is me, in that case, he will continue to eat normally after killing the mouse. Of course I'd never caress him even when he recognizes me, he's a venomous animal, with the boas there's no great risk but a venomous animal is a different thing.

I agree with snakecharmer, I have seen kings who as juveniles were very aggressive attacking and hooding repeatedly, but after several years its hard to get them to hood anymore, much less strike. I have seen canebrakes that could recognize keepers, esp if the same animal has been with the same keeper for over a dozen years. Heck, I used to take my big boa out into my backyard when I was young and handfeed rabbits, Damn snake would crawl over and take a frozen thaw right outta your hand. Certain snakes, exhibit different personalities, even siblings of the same clutch can act like night and day. I am not saying it always happens but more than possible,
