What effect will this have on antivenin research and availability?...if any?

Patrick, Wyeth only makes snake antivenom for veterinary use these days.
It is not likely that Pfizer will bring back antivenom for human use if they buy out Wyeth, and they might even stop the anitvenom production for veterinary use.
Wyeth also produces antivenom for Black Widow Spider bites. It is possible that they will continue to produce that, but then again, they might stop production of that antivenom also.

There are labs putting out the product other than Wyeth. They dropped coratlidae poly a while back and more recently coral. There are some good serums being produced still.
