Does anyone have any pictures of some all-around useful snake sheilds? I've got some left-over stuff, but I can hardly find anything online.
Thanks,
Jon Short

Jon,
On page 11 of Allen Hunter's Venom 101 there are a couple pictures of shields. Here's a link if you don't have it:

Snake shields are a very useful tool.
However, each shield fits only a very narrow set of parameters.
For instance, the sort of shield that you would use to block a strike from a small snake (say a pigmy rattlesnake) while reaching into its 10 gallon aquarium-style cage will be of no use to you when dealing with a 5-foot long Eastern Diamondback Rattelsnake in a large Vision cage (and vice versa).
I have used everything from a small plexi shield on the end of a 2 X 2 handle for cleaning Eyelash Viper cages to a no-kidding lexan riot shield for a walk-in Bushmaster cage.
First you need to decide what sort of shield you need. Then design it to meet those needs.
Good luck.

I am talking about the shieds you use to block off a portion of the cage to change water or anything else you need to do.
I was considering making them to poeples specifications.

In that case the designs are endless.Like Karl said, each type of cage and different snakes would use different sheilds. Here's an idea. Not many places sell shift boxes, have you ever thought about makeing and selling those? Personally, I beleive they are the safest and most stress free way of moving venomous around. Both for the snake and the keeper. Some different sizes, well built, with an opening you can easily open/close with a hook.I've built a few that I use out of 1/2 inch plywood that work great.Just a thought, Marty
