I do have to say that while Aechmophrys and Uropsophus are clunkier than the names of some Prussian generals, I think "Hoser" is completely fitting!

TruthHater you say that Leiopython should be retained because it is no longer monotypic. If that's your argument, then why not merge Leiopython and Bothrochilus as the latter as it stands IS monotypic?

It's not my main argument, but it is an argument that will resonate in parts of the phylogenetics community. For me, the argument of nomenclatural parsimony is sufficient to reject synonymisation.

@viper007
and why not merge the monotypic genus Lenhoserus and Morelia, leaving Lenhoserus to the synonymy of Morelia?

Taxonomy can be argued endlessly. No doubt that it will. I think that the crux of the thread was the original paper. It was asked if it had issues, and indeed it does. Enough so that it will go nowhere.
Also, it has always been considered arrogant and in very poor taste to name (or attempt to) species after oneself. Believe it or not, there is some honor and integrity among scientists and there are a few lines that simply don't get crossed.....at least not often.
Personally, I look at 300 Crotalus atrox all day and see the geographical variances. I am in no hurry to try and split these. Besides, nobody ever pronounces my name right anyway so what's the point? :)
