I have found, through personal experimentation, that many snakes prefer a hide box that they can enter from the top - especially rattlesnakes.
When I was breeding Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnakes, I would give them hides made from empty butter tubs turned upside down with a top hole in them. They loved them.
This set-up obviously won't work with larger snakes but just about any hide can be adapted to have an opening in the top to accomodate the snake's natural tendencies to want to go down to hide.

Here you go - a little late but I am sure these are what you were looking for in the first place.
Welcome back to "Neodesha" cages.

They also have the black plastic hide boxes.

Thanks Karl. I did het about 100 of each. True that some of the snakes prefer them while others do not, or use them to perch on. Mojaves seldom use them while prairies are normally tucked in them at all times. Leps love perching as to the cottonmouths.
Cobras...the smaller the better for them.
