Ok, so you folks in SC have a warning from USARK.
Andrew is doing a great job, as usual trying to warn folks and get them involved.
Your state hosts the largest venomous reptile shows on the East Coast, except for Hamburg.
You know that the animal rights folks want to target your state.
So, this leaves me with one question.
Is SCARK doing anything about this ?
It would seem like a good opportunity for SCARK to get folks togehter and get better organized, and sign up new members.
I am surprized that we have not seen a SCARK table at the Columbia Show this spring. Would that not be a great way to sign up new members ? The more signed up members, the more support you have to call on when it is time to rally the troups.
Or, if not a SCARK or USARK table, how about printing sign up sheets stapled to a pre-addressed envelope, and ask vendors to put them on the tables for folks to pick up.
Many vendors would make room for them on their tables, and printing up some application forms and envelopes would have minimal costs to USARK / SCARK.
Something like that could pick up a lot of new members from the Columbia public who attend the shows. Expecially, if the flyer / sign up sheet told how these groups are fighting for keeping of all kinds of pets, and not juts reptiles.
Just a few thoughts on the subject.
Best Regards

Other than seeing Roark at the Raleigh shows last year, no one seems to have heard a peep out of him.
I will state that we have and will give SCARK or USARK at table at all of the shows at no charge.
I keep checking web sites for updates on this bill, I believe that it was heard on the 23 of March, but have yet to find out any other info.

I joined NCARK at the beginning, and SCARK at its inception. I still get e-mails from Andrew, but I haven't seen or heard from Roark in over a year. That's why I asked about the name of the reporter (or at least the station) - to see who they had talked to.
I, too, have been wondering about other keepers here in SC. We used to have an annual meeting at the zoo, but I haven't heard about that in over a year either.

Replying to more than one post:
HR669 hearign is April 23, here is more info:

Yes, some states require for some toys with engine to be certain age, but here where I live kids run ATv and dirt bikes all the time. What gets me, as u know in FL and other localities, exotic owners have to have inusrance, how is it fair, if ATV injures you , they dont have to have insurance to pay the injured party, but if your animals injures ATV rider, you need to have insurance, why selectively force insurance only on some people???
I checked snakegetters site, great info

Interesting that SCARK and Roark came up here. I sent in my SCARK dues by PayPal on 3/2/2008, never heard another peep. No newsletter, no T-shirt, nothing, zip.

Sounds like USARK is the outfit to support, especially now that the threat is Federal.
At least they send out 3 or 4 updates a month.
If they would set up at all of the reptile shows, a lot of the general public could be reached that way.
If they do not want to travel to the reptile shows, perhaps they can at least print up membership applications. I would be happy to hand them out at my table, if I had them available.
Best Regards

We are planning a heavy show schedule this year, but will not be able to make it to every show. Email me and I have a package of stuff supporters can make available. Thanks John!

Just to update this topic...I heard a radio blurb promoting this news cast this morning on the way to work; the segment will be airing on on WMBF(http://www.wmbfnews.com)out of Myrtle Beach, which I believe is a NBC affiliate. The promotional spot, with accompanying scary music, had statements like, "To see the world's deadliest predators, you might be only a click away", interspersed with comments from what sounded like Wayne Pacelle's voice, warning of how dangerous "these animals" are, and a 911 tape of some woman stating that "my son has a pet snake, and I think it's strangling him". It's not going to be just about venomous snakes, but constrictors, as well, obviously. It's supposed to air tomorrow, Thursday, April 30, at 6:00 pm. I can't receive that newscast because of my location, but I'm sure they'll put a video link on that website, so we need to be prepared with our editorial comments.

I'm ready too. I hope to be able to catch a video of it online. I pray nobody in the area got stupid and sold anything to a complete stranger. Reading a couple of posts back it looks like the piece will focus heavily on internet sells.
