That depends since my western pigmys are all very mellow and have never struck at me and basically never rattle. I have had dusky pigmys that were very irritable and ready to strike.
My catenatus is not that pissy, but will lunge out of the cage to get food. More of a feeding response than a bad attitude. He was collected as a neonate, so I'm sure that had an affect(he is very bold).

Hello there,
I am keeping several Massasaugas and Pigmy-Rattlesnakes at my home in Germany. In my opinion Sistrurus catenatus ssp are much easier to handle with the hook than Sistrurus miliarius ssp. In fact the Massasaugas make much more noise than the Pigmys do, but they do not often try to get off or to bite one. Newborn Massasaugas are feeding Pinkys without any problems while Pigmys of all the three subspecies often make trouble about this.
Regards, Peter
