As of April 2008 the state of texas now requires a permit for all non-native venomous snakes and some species of pythons and anacondas. To be clear the only venomous snake I own is a copperhead which is native to Texas so nothing illegal going on. I know there's not many people from Texas on this site but I was wondering if someone might know a little about the precedure of obtaining a exotic snake permit. Im sure its different from state to state but what is some of the things to expect like do they come to your home and inspect your set-up or will they just want you to send a photo of your set-up. Do you have to complete some kind of training? I just want to know what to expect. Also, once you do get the permit can they come to inspect your set-up any time?
Ive done some research on the internet and even searched the texas park and wildlife website and havent found any helpful information so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great weekend.

Just wanted to add something. I am planning to attend the San Antonio show in June. I am hoping to find an eyelash viper if and only if I have the permit required by the state. I know that I represent a group and any bad desions we make reflect on all of us. Dosent seem fair but thats the way it is. Anyway, Ive been looking on the classifieds on here and kingsnake.com and that seems to be a very hard snake to find. Is the eye lash viper a rare snake? Ive slao spent many hours researching them but would like to hear from someone who has kept them and there thoughts on keeping them. Termpermant, feeding, things of that nature.

Indeed. If you are simply keeping snakes, or purchasing one you need only a permit that you can get at Wally World.
To sell snakes requires a seperate permit (commercial).

While we are on the subject of Texas wildlife laws, what is the status of the law that did away with road cruising for snakes ?
Is anyone trying to change that ?
What type of permit does it take to be able to road cruise in Texas for snakes ?
Best Regards
