I was bitten by a baby copperhead. It got me on two toes. It happened 2 weeks ago. I was in ER all day & an overnighter. My ankle is still swollen & my foot is bright purple. I was given antibiotics & tentus shot(plus really good pain pills). How long will this swelling last?
I live in Greenville, Tx ( east Texas).
Thanks Sue

If you do not keep the leg elevated it could last for a month. Copperheads are known for their ability to induce tremendous pain as well as swelling at the site of envenomation. The venom of a young snake is not much different then that of an adult with the exception of it having less inert components (water). I have been tagged by quite a few different species and I believe the copperhead has them all beat when it comes to pain.
I hope you watch where you step from now on, I would be interested in seeing a photo of the bite site if you have one. Also what location (state) were you in when you received the bite? Southern copperheads are a tad more potent then the northern species and the western clans also have quite potent venom.
Anyway I hope you are doing better and in a month or two you should be like new and a little more respectful of the copperhead.
