Rule number one: If the public report seeing a snake, divide the length they state in half. So, the 17 foot boa becomes at most a 8 foot snake.
Rule number two: If the public call it a boa constrictor, then it probably a tropical snake, however, it is most likely to be a python and not a boa.
Rule number three: If the public say the snake's head was as big as a grapefruit, then the snake's head is actually the size of a baseball or smaller.
