If I would of had my act together when I was younger, I would have invested in a camera. It wasnt tell about the last 10 years or so that I finally made the purchase. So many snakes I look back on that photographs would have made some great records. But we only learn from our mistakes. As far as the Hispidas from what I remember they never gained a great deal of weight. Like many of the imports brought in back than there was always a high mortality. But with patience a few would survive. Hispida is one of the snakes that did not get imported very often,so the trial and error of survival was very limited, even at that time A.Squamiger were starting to show up,many of these died soon after they came in. Over the years Squamiger became more avaiable, this allowed collectors to feel out there needs for surviveing. Thanks Chris

Anytime someone works with a "difficult" snake, there is a risk of it dying quickly.
But, at the same time, the folks who take that risk just might learn things that will help future generations to keep those snakes alive in captivity.
It is kind of like my Coral Snakes, that most folks can not keep alive for long periods, however, I have kept them alive for 7 years, and others have kept them even longer than that. And there are now others who are repeating that, and have kept them for 3 or more years.
As was previously mentioned, it was not that long ago that folks viewed bushmasters and rhino vipers the way hispida are viewed today.
I would say Chris, only buy them if you do not mind loosing your investment, and if you have the patience to work with them. Perhaps you will luck onto that magic bullet that is the key to keeping them alive for a long time. But, perhaps you will have them die off, like many others before you have had happen.
Good luck if you decide to try it ..............
Best Regards
John Z

Archie Thanks for the response,no need to apoligize. Im sure there is alot of folks out there that say some wild things. I have never joined in a forum before, but I thought I would just offer some motivation to keep trying. I follow the questions because I enjoy hearing people talk about there snakes. I no longer keep a large collection my self. I found out over the years that small collections are much more rewarding. Your profile shows you have an interest in the Hognose Vipers ,these are great little snakes,I have been lucky over the years in haveing numerous Hognose Vipers,if I can help you out with any questions drop me a line. I apoligize for my typeing skills im not the best on these computers Thanks Chris

Thanks for the info, I am not going to be getting them anytime soon but i figured that I should start my research now since there is no information out about them. I am going to give these guys a shot someday though and if i come across that "magic bullet" i will be sure to let everyone know what it is. There have been reports of captive hatched hispida that I believe should be free of most parasites which seems to be the problem with them from what I have found so I will go for these guys when they become available again.
