My HOA is requiring removal of my collection. This is by popular demand (mob rule) of the homeowners. The governing documents address animals/pets and snakes are not on the approved list. My counter argument is that this list is about animals/pets and not captive wildlife. In FL, there is, by definition, a difference.
I have a FL VRL. Which many of you know requires alot of training. I contacted FWC legal department and they are so busy defending against counties which are claiming a constitutional right to regulate, that they can't get into this private property issue. They said this was the first instance they had heard of, so now is the time to act. If FL FWC loses authority to regulate captive wildlife on private property, this could have serious consequences. City code enforcement inspected my home and agrees to the distinction between animals/pets and captive wildlife, giving them no authority.
Here is the plan. Please email my HOA with your thought on this matter. Please be polite but factual. They see a danger, even though no recorded examples exist of an escaped venomous reptile harming an uninvolved party. They don't get that this is a right to ownership and a privilege I have worked very hard to get.
Many of you respect Florida's system as a model of good regulation instead of outright ban. We may be losing this if the authority of FWC is weakened.
The Siena Oaks, Palm Beach Gardens, FL Homeowners Association email address is "manager@sienaoakshoa.com".
I would appreciate any response, and this is a chance to articulate your thoughts to relieve some frustration regarding the image we keepers are cursed with.
Even if you don't know me, my profile may show my honest intentions.

I'll send them my thoughts on the matter, but it won't help. They don't need my vote to stay in power. Therefore, they don't give a darn what my opinion is. Most HOA's are just a group of bored housewives that has power over everyone that lives there. And they love to abuse that power, and spend all day, every day just looking for things like this.I wouldn't live anywhere that had an HOA. Not even if they bought the house for me.Like most people,my house is the biggest investment I'll ever make.I'll be damned if I'll let someone else tell me what I can or can't do with it. My advise is move. But that's just my $0.02. Best of luck, Marty

Have you talked to a lawyer?
Seems wrong not to grandfather someone in when HOA rules are changed. Heck if they can change rules just because they don't like something... just wrong!
HOA News letter,
We want to inform all Pinewood home owners that on Sept 1 2009 their will be a no pet rule enforced. Those of you who own dog's, cat's, fish, bird's, Hamsters or any other live animal must get rid of them or move. Oh and by the way Blue and White cars are not allowed in the subdivision, if you own one of these colors you must park it in the garage, move or it will be towed!
Thanks for understanding,
HOA
I own a concealed weapons permit, does my HOA have the right to ban guns and people who carry them legally? NO! This is wrong in so many ways. I’m sure you have heard the stories where home owners paint their house a nasty, horrible color to protest! Lol
Call a lawyer.

Man that is tough. I had the same issue with my pit bull's. They won and I moved. I don't know about ware you are, but here in Texas, the Cort will side with them 90% of the time. Your deal is a shame. I bet your neighborhood dogs run unattended all the time yet there owners are not made to get rid of them. You are the only one in danger from your snakes so it just don't make sense to me.
