I'm guessing you want to grow plants in the cage too? If so, why not get some soil (Good soil, not the crap in your backyard). For a fertilizer there are many organic things to use. (Bat shit)lol, ok guano comes to mind. Snakes live in caves where you also find Bat's. I have seen Guano at ACE Hardware or just go online and many (recreational growing sites) also sell Guano and other organic ferts for growing plants. (Might get some leads on pure dirt with no ferts added as well)
I thought of growing plants, ferns, vines and all for an eyelash viper once but never did. That was 15 years ago and some of this organic stuff wasn't easy to get as it is today. If your question isn't about growing plants, what makes you ask about using MG stuff?

Many of the peat moss products aimed at plants are dosed with insecticides and fungicides as well. Ensure you read the label carefully.

NO, growing plants is not the issue. My buisness partner used miracle grow peat moss to increase the humidity in his female tiger retic's enclosure, he was un aware that the peat moss comtained fertilizer(although I am not sure how). After a week, the snake was exibiting some strange behaviors, like sitting in the water excessively, laying on her side, and general lethargy. Then three weeks later she died. I suspect the fertilizer is to blame. But this fool doesn't seem to agree.

Darrell,
I would be very suspicious of any substrate that contained any type of synthetic fertilizer.
Not a good idea to use stuff like that at all.
Perhaps the snake absorbed through the skin, and was killed by it, or perhaps the snake just died for other reasons.
But, it is best to use pure substrates that are not contaminated with anything.

She was also fed on it, and undoubtedly ingested some. It is possible that something else was to blame for the death, He was giving calcium supplements with magnesium also, but I don't think that was the culprit.

Do remember, miracle grow is plant dirt on steroids. If you apply it to leaves, then it will burn the leaves. So no, it is not good for animals in my opinion. If you want to use soil that can be bought from the garden center then get super soil 3000 or something like that. Also remember that mites and other nasty critters can hitch a ride into your collection in your dirt.
