NEW PORT RICHEY — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission thwarted an illegal plan to sell pythons on Craigslist.
Monday, Lt. Steve DeLacure got a tip that twelve pythons were listed on the popular Internet site used for selling and trading items. DeLacure found the add and offered to buy a python on Wednesday during an undercover investigation, according to an FWC news release.
Bradley Scott Dean, 19, of Haven Drive in New Port Richey was arrested on second-degree misdemeanor charges of possession of reptiles of concern without a permit, failure to present a valid wildlife dealer\'s license and failure to microchip the snakes. According to the release, Dean could face additional charges stemming from not maintaining records of who he got the snakes from. Charges may also be forthcoming for those involved in the sale of the snakes to Dean.
Two adult Burmese pythons measuring about 9 feet long, four adult reticulated pythons that were 4-9 feet long and six small juvenile albino Burmese pythons were seized and taken to Weebee\'s Pet World in New Port Richey for their safety.
The FWC lists Burmese and reticulated pythons as reptiles of concern because they are a threat to Florida\'s environment if the escape or are released into the wild illegally. Licenses are required to own and to sell them. Once they reach 2 inches in diameter, the snakes must be microchipped to identify their owner.
In December 2007, DeLacure received a complaint about Dean and his girlfriend, Izabela Bethany Borczyk, 20, when they were illegally selling sugar gliders over the Internet. DeLacure issued them a warning at that time, according to the release.
Borczyk may also face charges of being a principal in the first degree to failure to produce a wildlife dealer\'s license.

Well we knew this was coming, they started with the cracking down on Escort service and now Pythons, what\'s next, can\'t buy AK47\'s and an Oz of weed on craigslist anymore? DAMN!

The stupid shall be punished!
Advertising on the Internet that you are breaking the law is like taking out an ad looking for an arrest!
Way to go to FWC.
I am glad to see current laws being enforced rather than new laws being made to further restrict the people who are trying to obey the current ones.

I didn\'t know adult Tics only got 4-9 feet. Always was told they were bigger then that. I kid of course.

Wow! Adult retics 4-9 foot?! My 12 foot male tiger must be a freak! lol.
Well least FWS is doing something other then sitting around ^^.
