Tim,
You can upload the photo to your Profile here at the site, and everyone will be able to see it.
You can EMail the photo to me at jzegel@mindspring.com and I will help you identify it.
You can upload it to the "snakes for identification" section of our photo album, but it will not show up until a site manager approves it. So, let me know if you decide to do that, so I can get it approved.
Also, please take the best photos you can of the snake, and tell us what part of the world you live in. What Country, what State, and even what County, or what the nearest large town is.
I am sure we will be able to help you, if the photo is clear.
Best Regrads

99% of the snakes I've had to go get out of people's houses have been Rat Snakes or Corn Snakes. The lone exception was a tiny Red-Bellied Snake, which I believe had stow-awayed in a child's bookbag that had been conveniently left outside in the bushes overnight so the owner could avoid doing homework by claiming that he'd left his books on the bus. Many of these Rat Snakes have been babies, which of course, do not look like adult Rat Snakes at all, yet most were inevitably called "Rattlesnakes", "Copperheads" or some other presumed-deadly species by the panicked occupants of the house. You can Google "Juvenile Copperhead" on Google images, and see that baby Copperheads have a distinct bright yellow or yellow-green tail, and then Google "Juvenile Rat Snake" or "Juvenile Corn Snake" to compare to the snake in your house.

Yep, most of the time, it is a poor old rat snake that gets chopped up by folks thinking it is for some reason a copperhead.
Hopefully, Tim will upload a photo before he kills the critter, and give us a chance to identify it.
The funny thing, is that to snake hunters, there is as much difference between a rat snake and a copperhead, as there is between a goat and a dog.
I just do not understand why other folks can not see that difference, no matter how how much we try to teach them. Maybe they just don't want to learn ?

Tim,
The snake is a harmless juvenile Rat Snake.
They often wind up inside houses this time of year, when they are looking for food.
Just use a broom and sweep it into a container, and release it somewhere outdoors.
They are great to have around, as they control rodents.
Best Regards
