Hi guys...
I wanted to show you a 30"x18" cage I made.
here's the link - http://imageevent.com/webdesigner/cages
It is made with nice birch plywood, 1/4" glass, and has linoleum on the bottom of the cage.
It has a track like the Vision cages, so the glass is very close together. Nothing is getting out of here.
I just wanted to know what you guys thought..
Thanks,
Jon Short

John,
Very nice handiwork there! Looks like you have some nice woodworking skills.
From the pics is doesn't look like its been sealed. If not I would highly recommend doing so both inside and out.
I'm also not a huge fan of the plastic glass track. Everytime I have used it it seems to warp or crack over time. I have since switched to aluminum.
Should be an easy fix though should you encounter problems later on down the road.
Once again, NICE JOB!

Jon, very nice looking cage you have built.
I would agree with the sealing with silastic, and with coating at least the inside the walls with polyurethane.
Also, I am not seeing much ventilation in the cage.
Do you have plans to drill holes, or, install some vents of some sort ?
Best Regards

Jon,
I would strongly urge you to seal the entire thing inside and out.
It would be a shame to invest the time building such a nice cage and have the walls stained with feces or the exterior end up with dirt ground into the grain of the wood.
I share this with you not as a "know it all" but rather a person who has invested the time and money building a beautiful enclosure only to have it deteriorate do to not sealing it.

awsome, the next one you make, design the grooves where the glass slides aluminium, it will last much longer and is more easy to clean, good work though, arin

Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys... I will make sure to use aluminum track next time, and I'll see what I can do about sealing this one up..
I've tried sealing other cages, and they kept putting off the odor, so at that point I kind of decided not to do it again. I don't want to ruin such a nice cage.
I'll see though..
Thanks again,
Jon Short

I'm sorry Jon...
That is just too nice a piece of craftsmanship to put anything into it!! I can't speak to any of the recommendations you've received (I don't have anything other than cats and a dog), but that is truly a nice-looking bit of work...
