I may be wrong but I believe that all the Baytril shots I have seen given were subcutaneous (given just under the skin). They were given on the side about 1/4 of the way down from the spine to the caudal (belly) scales. The information about Baytril creating injection site necrosis is spot on. Eastern Indigo Snakes are especially susceptible to small area necrosis following Baytril injections.
Hope this helps in some small way.

If necrosis happens, how long does the healing take. Is there scaring? It's a rattlesnake and unlike an Indigo, doesn't shed as often.

Necrosis around a injection site should clear up after a couple of sheds.
