Mistype^, don't beat me up, I just find it funny that people start fights over misspelled words. I'm sure everyone could read the paragraph above. Sorry, I had my fun. (People fighting over mispelled words over the internet lol! I won't post about this any more. I had my fun!

Bringing it back around...
Rob brought up something intriguing. Back in the day..I believe the dinosaurs had just died out the day before... snakes like corn snakes were a goal for many of us young keepers. I remember them being known as Red Rat Snakes back then. I was just in Gray-band (alterna) country for a couple days and that had me reflecting and telling a colleague (more of a bird person although I am converting her) how alterna were the Holy Grail of snakes back in the day. Of course it was accompanied with my dry documentary speech of why.
I wouldn't trade a day in the field for a day picking up pre-packaged snakes in a deli cup for a thousand Taipans.

There is some excitement I get over a deli cup snake just because I'm not able to herp for them so it's the next best thing but yes, field herping can never be beat. I visit California every 3 or 4 years for some reason or another. This past summer I drove there again on vacation. The hill that I once caught most of my snakes when I was a kid is still there. (The city owns it and made it a place for horseback riders, however buildings are almost all around it) It's brings back childhood memories and past herp trips. It's a special time for me and I will just stand there trying to take it all in, even taking deep breaths to remember the smell. This year was special for me because my son was with me. We caught a Southern Pacific so it was 1000 X better, a herp trip I'll enjoy remembering and watching (Recorded it) the rest of my life.
