Silly question maybe but I have a Common snapper that was put in with my Alligator snapper and tried very hard to breed her. I removed him and have not put him back with her but am very curious to your opinions on the probability of them actually producing hybrids? I wouldn't think it's possible or you would see them in the wild.

I can't say that I have seen any hybrids myself. I cannot say that I have heard of any hybridization either through conversations with biologists in their natural range or via the literature.
I have seen a few of the Chelydra that have caused me to take another look due to the carapace from afar. But a quick look at the other features, including the plastron IDed the animals pretty quick.
Is this to say that it can't or never has occurred? I can't say that. Given their size difference at maturity, it might prevent most encounters, but most species stick with their own.
In captivity....I have seen it all sadly. :)

If your Alligator snapper is a female, which I assume it is, how large is it? It (she) needs to have at least a 24" carapace at the minimum to be sexually mature.
I have never seen a hybrid either and doubt that they would breed.Their personalities and requirements in the wild would prevent that.
