Hi guys,
I was always told to keep 2 Naja Nivea's apart and never found any information to back this up. I'm now busy with a breeding project and would like to put 2 Naja's in the same enclosure together. The Naja's are 55cm long. My questions are the following...
1. Is it safe for them to live together?
2. Is it mandatory they be separated when feeding until their little tummies are full? or can they be fed together.
3. Do they have to go into hibernation to mate?

My opinion would be to not keep them together. From what I have read, seperating them and introducing them during breeding is more sucessful, however I have not bred my Naja.
If you do keep them together, they must be fed seperately, Im not entirely sure how the feeding response is on N. nivea, but you dont want to risk any fights, and if you have to leave the food in there, you dont want to have 1 eat both food items, and you not know who ate what.
No, they do not need to hibernate to mate. They do need to brumate though. That is just when you lower the temperatures and switch up the light cycle. My guess would be lower temps about 7-10°, and a light cycle of 8/16 for cooling. They arent fed in this period, and you do this for roughly 2 months. Then at this time, you can introduce them.
Again, these are just my opinions, because I have not bred, nore kept Naja nivea, I also only have limited information from reading.
Heres a good site: http://www.kingsnake.com/elapids/index.htm
Hope I could help,
Chris

well, the male and female... the male seems to be VERY VERY protective!!! he will keep himself between anything and the female. they also lie ontop of one another... sounds a bit strange. I took the one out yesterday and fed the male, he is very aggressive and took his first live moving mouse. The female however seems very docile, i'm just afraid she might not eat... she didn't seem interested in the mouse very much.

That I cant really help you with, being that I am having a bad feeding problem with my Javan spitters. However, you could try placing her alone with it in a rubbermaid container so she cant venture off from it. If you keep live in there with her, use rat pups so they cant harm the snake. I dont even think this is necessary, untill she doesnt eat for a long time. Just a precaution if it turns out that way.
