A gentleman that recently moved into our area has recently posted rattlesnake warning signs around his property, about 3 miles from our home. We live in a farming community with mostly fields and wooded areas. We have been told he has released approx. 1400 rattlesnakes into the area through a government grant. Just wanted to know if this could be true.

i would be interested in where he came about getting 1400 canebrakes or timbers?....or eastern diamonds if your south of charelston or carolina pygmies, if your up in the sand hills....seems very unlikely....

Well, to be honest, I think that is something I might tell someone if I didn't want them nosing around on my property.
It might be a relatively cheap way to protect a moonshine still or some other less than stellar activity.
That is a MUCH more likely scenario than anyone getting permission to release any captive rattlesnakes, which is illegal in almost every state.
Just my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing: the guy is using the story about rattlesnakes to scare off trespassers. When I was a kid, there was a pond and a deep drainage ditch on the property next to ours, owned by the woman who lived across the road. She had several "Beware of ALLIGATOR" signs put up around the pond to keep people from fishing there, having found that "NO FISHING" signs were ignored. She was afraid that someone would fall in and drown and their family would sue her, a legitimate concern.

When I was moving to Pahrump in 2000 and looking for land, I saw this property (not for sale) with a sign ‘Unexploded bombs on the property’. At that moment I knew I was at ‘home’, I dint really believe they had bombs, but what attracted me was that they were free to put that sing up and not be forced to remove it by fear mongers.
Anyway, 10 years later, the sign it still on that fence about 1-2 miles form my place bought, no explosions so far.
I noticed another sign on different road lately, also on the way here/home,...the sign says; No trespassing, property protected by pit bulls
Of course I live in the good old west town where some casinos have door handles in the shape of a revolver (not pistol, they jam)

<<I always liked, "Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again".

I have that sign on my cages, plus another one with human hand holding a revolver and it says: don't worry about the dog, worry about the owner
