I've got an unheated rack in my snake room. The snake room stays very warm.
The tubs in the rack stay 73-75 degrees at night and up to about 82 degrees during the day. The snakes always feel cool though, versus some of mine that have a basking lamp, but are still near the same temps.
I'm debating on whether or not to get heat for the rack.
Are these temps high enough to go without an additional heat source?
Thanks,
Jon Short

With summer coming the room will most likely gain some additional degrees. 73-82 in March for those species sounds fine. Just keep an eye on them as the summer approaches and then fall. I bet you pick up a couple of degrees in the coming months, which will get you close to 85. I would not worry about additional heat with those species.

Jon a heat tape is easy to install .If you are a poor boy like me you can use a dimmer switch instead of a thermostat to lower the temps on the tape. You build some nice stuff so for you it will be a breeze.

I'm a big fan of creating thermal gradients for herps. Many successful keepers will just heat the entire room with a single source and while that works for them, I like to cue into natural thermal regulatory instincts of herps by setting up warm and cool areas w/in their habitats. I would provide a litte heat via heat tape but just as importantly, connnecting it to a quality thermostat that allows for night drops for the species you are keeping.

My room is set at 78 degrees with all of my racks heated with heat tape controlled by Johnson Control Thermostats.
As Archie mentioned, dimmer switches work well when on a budget.
