I was watering my Eyelash viper and noticed he was drinking the water that was trickling down the branch. After about a minute, he abruptly stopped and directed his attention towards my misting bottle. he then held his mouth agape and I was spraying water directly into his mouth! I dismissed this behavior thinking it was a fluke, but he has repeated this behavior consistently. Has anyone encountered this behavior with this species or any other species?

Not exactly, but I've noticed while watering a Wagler's that as soon as she's done drinking she becomes obviously annoyed with the spray. My guess would be that he just wants you to stop.

Your eyelash is gaping and is displaying behavior that the misting is no longer wanted. Eyelash will some times drink from a water dish other times water from misting. You may want to lower the eyelash into a swallow dish of water to see if it will drink. I mist about two days after feeding this is the time when the snake needs to drink the most. I have also witnessed my eyelash hanging down from the branch drinking water from a dish directly. Never assume that your eyelash is drinking from a dish on its own, misting is still needed some.

Thanks for the reply. When my eyelash viper redirected his attention towards me initally, his mouth was closed. He was drinking the water that was puddling on top of his head. However, I concur with your answer that he was irritated when he held his mouth agape. Good call.
