This is more bad press for two groups of people that don't need any; snake keepers and South Carolinians...
And I agree, he should be charged with animal cruelty...

I wasn't there but the media has a flair for sensationalism and fear mongering. Assuming the articles facts are right. The suspect struck the victim in the face with the snakes head. Doesnt really specify, did he swing the snake like a baseball bat or have the snake in a three finger pin hold and simulate a snake striking type action. Could be he just threw the snake onto the victim or brushed by him walking down the hallway.
Regardless he is an idiot and so is the reporter for calling it a "Snake Attack".

This bit of "News" made it to the BBC. Dangit! Well, at least we can try to look at the humorous side of it. Best comment that I have read today:
