I was just viewing the USARK's Kill-Rule Change video and I have to say, I was very impressed.
I would urge everyone here to draft a letter aimed at defeating this Bill as it is based solely on conjecture and bad science. It is not simply a "python keepers" problem; it is a problem that faces everyone who keeps herps. Any Bill that is passed based on hype and junk science is a threat to all. If pythons are bad, what about king snakes? How about red-eyed tree frogs? Or how about the evil Bearded dragons that may displace local wildlife if they spread into Minnesota? Get the idea? It opens the door for media driven fear and science born from "opinion" or ignorance to be the catalyst for creating laws for problems that just do not scientifically exist.
It's an Animal Rights driven idealism. If you look at the history of the AR groups attacking zoos you'll see the methodology. First it was whales and dolphins. "No Jails for Whales" remember that? Once that lost its appeal, they turned to elephants. It is already well known that giraffes are next on their hit list. Why? Because it's easier to attack when a large charismatic animal or sensationalistic species is involved. It grabs headlines and people's attention. Once that has wormed its way through, it opens the floodgates for more irrational reasoning. "If such and such has been banned...why not....?
So, if you feel that this does not affect you, or it is going to go away on its own....think again.
I am in no way condoning the decline of native wildlife and ecosystems for the sake of a hobby or business. Injurious wildlife, or as I call it “biological pollution”, is a real issue on many fronts. However, I am opposed to wildlife laws created without sound scientific data to back them.

I live in Canada and therefore have no voting power in the US (unfortunately). I have been watching what you guys are going through with this recent turn in reptile laws. The United States is (or was) a safehaven for Canadian reptile keepers to gather exotic or otherwise unavailable animals to our pet trade.
All the venomous species I have kept were purchased in the US. Canada currently has no federal laws (except where endangered species are involved) regulating reptiles. What can I do to help in the fight against the ignorant AR agenda in the US?
Thanks,
Luke
