I got a chance to read this today.
The newspaper article on the first page was from my home town, Toronto. I remember when that idiot lost his saw scale and part of the city was practically shut down!
Apart from some spelling mistakes, the sometimes less than 'academic' way this article was written and some out-dated information, I thought it was a good guide for someone getting started, as well as a decent reminder for those of us who could beef up their security or improve their handling techniques.
I didn't like that he fails to mention that glass enclosures or doors can shatter, injuring the snake or keeper and facilitating and escape. I use only plexi-glass doors and plastic or melamine-coated wood enclosures.
I think I will start using trap boxes when I decide to get my first elapid.
Did anyone else read this article? I saw the SHHS logo on the cover page... was Allen Hunter associated with SHHS or is he still?

This was a popular website years ago ran by Allen Hunter and his wife. Everyone that did hots new "Venom 101". The site shut down, There have been PDF versions of it around ever since. There is still a lot of good info in it. And all of my cages have 1/4 inch glass fronts. Never had a problem. Doesn't scratch like plexi. Take care, Marty
