It all started when James bear not sure of spelling died from a canebreake bite a couple of years ago. From that point the exotic police have been hammering pet owners. If you open your eyes you will see all around the country raids and busts every week all aimed at herp keepers.Even when doing every thing legal it is a media circus. The use of rubber maid tubs are a major target. No food in the cage are a target .On the other hand if you have a thawed mouse in the cage it is a cruelity charge .We can not possibly win with this kind of attack. Our animals make the news and get media coverage that sells.Even if you are completely legal and do every thing right they will take your animals and kill them.I no longer wish for a large collection just a few pairs of what I like. The bigger you the better target you become.

Why not they should be held to the same standards as every one else. This whole ban thing has become a strong band wagon thing. The limitations of our American rights has become a band wagon thing.AZA would like us not to own exotics as well.It seems as tho the whole nation has forgot what it means to be an American.Freedom is a lost concept .The fact that people all march to the tune of a different drummer is some how lost in translation these days. This is one of the things that has made our country such a great nation. To be honest Z I could understand closeing our borders to any more animal imports,I could understand haveing to have proof of captive born animals.I can understand age limits on some dangerious animals,I can understand the requirement of people to get hours before working with some critters,I can even understand hands off policy as well as caging requirements.I just can not understand total bans on animals that are already here and in peoples homes.I do not understand the mentality of those who wish to make law abiding Americans a crimminal for doing what they have done there whole lives.Do we not have enough crime already with out making crimminals out of us.Are the prisons not full enough .We are faced with these AR nut jobs that have thru lies and false tv commercials been able to raise millions of dollars to pay lobbiests to do the unthinkable and use less than 5% to help the animals in shelters that was there claim to get the donations in the first place. We now stand at the dawn of an age never imagined by our forfathers. The age where eating meat is as much a crime as robbing a store with a gun.I wake up some days and think where the hell is this land of the free as it is not here....

oh I agree, everybody should be held to same standards, AZA and non AZA. My angle was, that usually AZA was/is exempt, this time they r not.
But at least they can apply for CITES listed animals permit and get it, private owners dont even have to bother in NM applying for import permit as things r now, private entities cant own Cites 1, 2 and 3 animals.Thsi is an old rule, jsut beign enforced recently, so folsk need to comment and make the rule less strict.Thsi is not jsut international import this is import from any US state to NM

I live 90 miles from NM and can not sell animals to them because of that. What I meant was with all the bans including the python ban importation of allot of animals is not nessisary any more anyway. Most is just so some one can make a profit somewhere witch is an american thing to do.But if we could work with and keep the animals with in our country now that would be great but it would never be enough for AR.They want blood ours and our animals there is no apeezing them or law makers.I would like to just find a place where it all stops and we can keep doing what we love with out the continued bills that now seem to never stop. There needs to be a law to stop all of these laws.A safe place where we can feel secure as animal keepers. It will happen when we feel secure as we will not be able to own any anymore.

Archie,
I can tell you, the AZA is against the current ban on Pythons, and have stated their position on it.
They are totally against it. The reason the AZA is/was exempt from such laws is, they were accorded the same status as museums, scientific institutions, etc.

As they should be .I know the aza is not all bad but they did hire you so they have at least 1 bad mark against them Randal.lol.I need to read more before I get on a rant this just has me scared.I hope it works out I do not want to have to hide my snakes.I am proud of what I do and what we all do .There are many people I look up to such as your self and many others that could be called out laws if these laws keep coming at us faster than we can keep up.Many people in the private sector have bred firsts of many species many are good hard working joes that just enjoy there collection. We encompass a wide variety of lifestyles and professions all coming togather in one goal to keep doing what we love.I hope it continues.
