i was thinking of bulding my own cages for some vipers and i was wondering what woulod be the best wood to use and also would plexi-glass work? please send me some details. jason scrub71284@yahoo.com

Don't know about the wood, as I use only outdoor 'grass' carpeting. But I've used plexiglass in every cage and display box I've ever built. Even the thinnest (looks like .050) from Lowes or Home Depot has served well for a long time. Just be aware that it will eventually scratch up over time and will need to be replaced if asthetics is your thing. And be sure to drill it before screwing it into your frame because it will crack otherwise.

If you use wood, I recommend using a melamine layer on top of the wood that you plan on using(to avoid bacterial and fungus growth). Use wood screws to attach the bottom and sides together(it makes a better bond)along with a good water proof adhesive. Plexi glass is fine. Remember, if there is a way out of a cage, a snake is SURE to find it! Happy building!

what exactly is melamine, where do i get it, and how musc does it usually cost. Also do i line the whole cage with it or just the bottom. jason scrub71284@yahoo.com

I use half inch. A or B grade plywood, and seal it with a good nontoxic sealer. And I use sheet rock or deck screws. But wood scerws are great to. I to use plexi glass.
